THE BOOK

What happens when PubMed meets public health, lived experience, and a woman who is officially out of fucks to give?
You get The Body Changed. The Bitch Did NOT!
This is not another book telling chronically ill, disabled, and neurodivergent people to think positively, practice gratitude, and become better at tolerating things that are actively making their lives harder.
Absolutely not.
This is a conversational memoir and research-informed self-advocacy guide built for people who want to understand what is happening to them, make better decisions, protect their energy, advocate for themselves, and build a life that actually fits.
I took the kind of information that usually lives in PubMed articles, public health textbooks, psychology research, healthcare systems, disability advocacy, workplace policy, and academic language—and translated it into something you can actually use without needing three graduate degrees and a nap afterward.
The research is there.
The personality is also very much there.
Throughout the book, I connect lived experience with evidence on disability, chronic illness, trauma, healthcare, relationships, work, accommodations, social determinants of health, self-advocacy, boundaries, decision-making, and the very real consequences of constantly overriding your own needs.
But I did not write a textbook.
I wrote the book I wanted someone to hand me and say:
“Here. This explains the science, validates what you are seeing, gives you something useful to do about it, and does not talk to you like you are a fucking inspirational poster.”
The book also introduces original practical frameworks and tools, including The NOPE Number Framework™, created to help readers evaluate what something is actually costing them—not just in money, but in energy, recovery time, stress, capacity, and quality of life.
You will find practical worksheets, decision-making tools, advocacy strategies, reflection exercises, and systems you can return to when your brain is overloaded and you do not have the bandwidth to reinvent the wheel.
Because sometimes the question is not:
“Can I technically do this?”
The better question is:
“What is this going to cost me afterward, and is it actually worth it?”
That distinction can change a life.
This book is for the person who has spent years being called difficult when they were asking for clarity. Dramatic when they were describing symptoms. Lazy when their body was depleted. Too sensitive when something actually hurt. Too much when they finally stopped making themselves smaller.
And because I refuse to make disability literature relentlessly depressing, there is also humor.
Dark humor. Smart-ass humor. “Well, this is medically fascinating and personally inconvenient as hell” humor.
Because sometimes you need peer-reviewed research.
Sometimes you need a worksheet.
And sometimes you need somebody to look directly at the nonsense with you and say:
“Yeah. That’s bullshit.”
The Body Changed. The Bitch Did NOT! brings all of that together.
Memoir meets PubMed.
Public health meets practical self-advocacy.
Research meets real life.
And evidence meets just enough profanity to make the medicine go down.
Your body changed.
You did not become less valuable, less intelligent, less worthy, or less entitled to have standards.
And you damn sure do not have to make yourself smaller to make everybody else comfortable.
We Don’t Have to Be Nice™.
